This text constitutes the opening section of *Pre-Islamic Turkish Religions*—the first volume of Yörükân’s two-volume work titled *History of Turkish Religions and Sects*, which had remained unpublished until now. Written at the request of Atatürk, the work was completed on January 1, 1932, and personally presented to him by the author at Dolmabahçe Palace. In the discussion of Turkish Shamanism, the text highlights the influence it exerted not only on Turkish Islam but also on other religions and sects—and, by extension, on Anatolian Turkish Alevism and Sunnism. It also stands as the first serious work produced in Turkey in the field of the sociology of religion.
