Magic: History, Theory, Practice

Ernst Shertel

‘Magic: History, Theory and Practice’ is a magic book by Ernst Schertel originally published in Germany in 1923. Schertel identifies heavily with the “demonic” in Magic, espousing the belief that “communion with the demon” is the most important aspect of magical/religious practice. Schertel had sent a dedicated copy of the book to Adolf Hitler. Hitler read the book and marked several passages. A total of sixty-six annotations were made by Hitler in his copy.

Tao te Ching

Insight into the Chinese Mind Series.

“Dating to the late ninth century B.C., the “I Ching, or, Book of Changes” is one of the oldest of the Chinese classics. What began as a manual for divination, the “I Ching” has been transformed through thousands of years of commentary and interpretation into one of the principal works of eastern cosmology. The central part of the work is the divination text, an explanation of hexagrams which may be produced through a process of cleromancy, a method of determining divine intent by the production of seemingly random numbers. Historically a casting of a bundle of stalks from the yarrow plant may have been used to produce the numbers which would build up the hexagram. Also part of the “I Ching” canon is a set of commentaries referred to as the “ten wings”, contained in the appendices of this volume. These commentaries are offered as a guide to moral decision making in interpreting the results of divination. The “I Ching”, having informed the philosophies of Taoism and Confucianism, remains to this day as one of the most influential of all ancient Chinese texts. This edition is translated with annotations by James Legge.”

Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy

Mircea Eliade

“First published in 1951, “Shamanism” soon became the standard work in the study of this mysterious & fascinating phenomenon. Writing as the founder of the modern study of the history of religion, Romanian emigre–scholar Mircea Eliade (1907-86) surveys the practice of Shamanism over two & a half millennia of human history, moving from the Shamanic traditions of Siberia & Central Asia–where Shamanism was first observed–to North & South America, Indonesia, Tibet, China & beyond. In this authoritative survey, Eliade illuminates the magico-religious life of societies that give primacy of place to the figure of the Shaman–at once magician & medicine man, healer & miracle-doer, priest, mystic & poet. Synthesizing the approaches of psychology, sociology & ethnology, “Shamanism” will remain for years to come the reference book of choice for those intrigued by this practice.”

The Secrets Of The Kaula Circle

Elizabeth Sharpe

“The Secrets of the Kaula Circle was not only one of the first books to introduce the secret Indian rituals associated with the Kaula or “Tantric” family to a Western audience, but it was also almost certainly the first book of its kind to be written by a woman. Elizabeth Sharpe was already well known for her studies and translations on Indian history and religions, but chose to write of the Kaula path as a novel, perhaps as it allowed her more dramatic effect, and in part at least she wanted it to serve as a warning, particularly to women, not to be drawn into the web of practice that she described. Her misgivings had been heightened by the apparent adoption of some of the practices by Western occultists, notably Aleister Crowley, whose person and activities she described in most unflattering terms.”

Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy published in 1533 drew heavily upon Kabbalah, Hermeticism, and Neoplatonism. His book was widely influential among esotericists of the early modern period, and was condemned as heretical by the inquisitor of Cologne.”

The Ur Group

Arturo RegHini

“The UR Group was founded by Julius Evola. His original purpose was to use magical means in an attempt to influence Benito Mussolini to abandon populism and instead create an aristocratic regime based on ancient Roman virtues. Among the first collaborators were the freemason Arturo Reghini, follower of the neo-Pythagoreanism of the Rocco Armentano’s “Schola Italica”, his pupil Giulio Parise, and the anthroposophist Giovanni Colazza, a disciple of Rudolf Steiner, belonging to the tradition of Christian esotericism. They gathered various seekers devoted to initiate asceticism, united by the sharing of similar esoteric studies, to revitalize the perennial tradition of the ancient sacred mysteries.”

Ario Hermetic Rune Magic

Peryt Shou

Peryt Shou was an affiliate of Aleister Crowley and distortor of the armanen tradition. This is one of his works of ‘hermetic’ aryanism. caveat.

“This second volume in the Ario-Hermetic Rune Magic series focuses on sound-magical tantra. The studies contained in this book may guide the esotericist to penetrate the inner connections of the universe by means of his own hermetic investigations. The ritual laws of logos (creator language), numerus (number) and gesture, as treated in this book on the basis of the ancient mysteries, will be of great benefit to him. In particular, some skill in the numerical analysis of the terms will create entirely new research material. Just as the laws of number are universal, so too are the laws of thought, if it is in harmony with them. And such thinking is also able to lift the curtain to the spiritual worlds. ”

Gregor Gregorius: Magical Writings

Insight into the Illuminati Mind Series

As with all books published by Berserker Books, such publications do not imply agreement or endorsement on the part of the publisher. All are presented as insight into diverse ideologies from primary and secondary sources.

Gregor Gregorius

Eugen Grosche (11 March 1888, in Leipzig – 5 January 1964), also known as Gregor A. Gregorius, was a German occultist and author. He was founder and Grandmaster of the lodge Fraternitas Saturni from 1926 till 1964.

Life and work
Most of his life Gregorius lived in Berlin. He was initially a member of an Evangelical church and was a member of the Weida Conference in 1925. In the wake of the Conference he founded the Fraternitas Saturni in 1926. Using his own book store and publishing house, he began publishing Magische Briefe (1926-1927), Saturn-Gnosis (1928-1933), and finally, fourteen Lectures of the Lodge-School.
The actual accomplishment of Gregorius and the FS was a more or less cohesive synthesis of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry, Luciferianism, astrological mythology, Crowleyanity (or Thelemism), sex-magical practices of the old O.T.O., various Indian yogic systems, and medieval and modern doctrines of alchemy and ritual magic.
During World War II he emigrated to Switzerland in order to avoid imprisonment, but in the course of the war he was arrested for a year by the Nazi government. After World War II Gregorius reformed Fraternitas Saturni. In 1954 he published Die magische Erweckung der Chakra, and in 1960 the novel Exorial. He died in 1964 after a heart attack.

Insight into the Illuminati Mind Series

As with all books published by Berserker Books, such publications do not imply agreement or endorsement on the part of the publisher. All are presented as insight into diverse ideologies from primary and secondary sources.

Fraternitas Saturni (lat.: “Brotherhood of Saturn”) is a German magical order, founded in 1926 by Eugen Grosche a.k.a. Gregor A. Gregorius and four others. It is one of the oldest continuously running magical groups in Germany. The lodge is, as Gregorius states, “concerned with the study of esotericism, mysticism, and magic in the cosmic sense”. The FS adopts a system of degrees, ending with the 33rd as highest degree to reach this goal. The lodge claims further no political or economical objectives. It propagates ideals of freedom, tolerance and fraternity.

Adonism

Rah Omir [Wilhelm] Quintscher

Adonism is a Neopagan religion founded in 1926 by Franz Sättler, which centers around the worship of multiple deities, particularly Adonis and Dido. It promotes beliefs in sensual enjoyment and tolerance, while also claiming to be a revival of ancient pagan practices, although this is largely considered a creation of Sättler himself. It was banned in the third reich and members wound up in the concentration camps.

Ur Group: Giuliano Kremmerz

Giuliano Kremmerz

Giuliano Kremmerz began at a very young age to study and practice the ancient hermetic wisdom of Izar (Pasquale de Servis), under whose guidance he soon became one of the leading figures in the occult sciences. After a mysterious period of more than five years in an unknown location, he returned to Italy with the intention to spread the doctrine of Hermeticism, publishing the magazine “The Secret World” in 1897. Kremmerz subsequently founded the “Therapeutic Brotherhood of Miriam,” and became involved with the UR Group during his later years. He eventually came into conflict with other Hermeticists who misinterpreted his work as promoting occultism, and was forced to leave Italy to settle in France, where he would end his days.
