Mad Wolf

Insight into the Turanian mind series

Nihal Atsiz

“Nihal Atsız, one of the pioneers of Turkism, is also considered a strong Turkologist by Turanist circles. According to these circles, Atsız, who knew the Turkish language, history and literature very well, was an expert especially in the Göktürk part of Turkish history. He novelized this period, which he loved very much, with two works called Bozkurtların Ölümü [Death of the Grey Wolves] and Bozkurtlar Dirliyor [Grey Wolves Resurrected]. His novel Deli Kurt [Mad Wolf] is a novelization of the early periods of Ottoman history. We see Atsız in the person of Selim Pusat in Ruh Adam. He said that he would write Yalnız Adam as a sequel to Ruh Adam [Spirit Man]. Another work he announced that he would write was the 3rd volume of the Bozkurtlar [Grey Wolf] series. Among his unpublished works is a work called History of the Ottoman Dynasty from Mahmud II to the Present Day. Nihal Atsız’s poems were published in book form under the title Yolların Sonu [End of the Roads].”
