The teaching of Honmon Butsuryushu is based on the teachings of the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Shonin. Honmon Butsuryu Shu is referred to as a Nichiren related religious sect, but historically, it is a sect founded by Nissen Shonin (Nagamatsu Seifu) in the latter part of the Edo period (1857).
